Dear Dock Street Families!   St. Ann’s Warehouse has invited our Dock Street School students to participate in the worldwide immersive theater event called Little Amal. Students will make and decorate pigeon puppets and postcards before Amal’s arrival! Little Amal is a giant puppet created by the South Africa-based Handspring Puppet Company, which represents a fictional nine-year-old Syrian girl embodying displaced children today. “The Walk” tells Amal’s life story, her search for her mother, and her flight to safety. The production is intended to teach compassion, puppetry, and theater. I have attached the Eventbrite and video tutorial on how to make pigeon puppets. I hope that you will be able to use this amazing curriculum at home to discuss some of the events taking place. Additionally, these materials will hopefully help highlight the important themes this experience can cultivate.
